Woman reflecting on changing her dating patterns

She Didn’t Lower Her Standards. She Changed How She Dated.

March 29, 20263 min read

Terri came into the program like a lot of people do.

Clear on what she wanted.
But unsure why things weren’t working.

She had already experienced what many women have:

• A relationship where the man had money—but not emotional capacity
• The frustration of investing in someone who couldn’t build something real
• The internal tug-of-war between potential and reality

Then something different happened.

In the middle of the program, she met a man.

On paper?
He checked a lot of boxes.

✔ Successful
✔ Stable
✔ Faith-based
✔ Intentional

They spent time together in a way that actually reflected alignment:

• Planned, intentional dates
• Daily Bible study together over the phone
• Clear effort on both sides
• Even choosing to sleep in separate rooms to honor their values

And for the first time…

👉 She wasn’t chasing.
👉 She wasn’t guessing.
👉 She wasn’t trying to prove her worth.

She was simply showing up as the woman she had become.

But here’s where everything could have gone the old way…

The timing didn’t align.

He had a dream he needed to pursue—learning to fly—
something that required time, focus, and space.

And while he was a good man…

👉 He didn’t have the capacity to build the kind of relationship Terri wanted right now.

Old Terri would have:

• Tried to make it work anyway
• Minimized her needs for quality time
• Held onto “what it could be”
• Waited…hoping things would change

Because that’s what most people do.

But this time?

She did something different.

She didn’t abandon herself.
She didn’t try to change him.
She didn’t negotiate her needs.

She chose based on capacity.

👉 She chose alignment over attachment.

She wished him well…
and let it go.

And this is the part most people don’t expect…

She didn’t lose anything.

She created space.

Shortly after, she met someone else.

This time:

• They had clear conversations about values and relationship vision
• They verified alignment early
• They were intentional about time, despite living in different states (Montana + Arizona)
• They met each other’s families
• They built, step by step, with direction

No guessing.
No drifting.
No emotional confusion.

And now?

They’re getting married next month.

Here’s the truth most people miss:

Terri didn’t get lucky.

She changed how she chose.

She made decisions based on:

• Capacity
• Alignment
• Long-term compatibility

—not chemistry alone
—not potential
—not fear of starting over

Because how you build in the beginning…

👉 determines what you end up in.

Most people think dating is about finding the right person.

But it’s actually about how you choose, pace, and evaluate from the beginning.

If you’re being honest…

Where are you still doing this the old way?

• Holding onto someone who doesn’t have the capacity
• Hoping timing will fix misalignment
• Trying to “make it work” instead of evaluating if it actually does

If you’re being honest…

Where are you still choosing connection over clarity?

Where are you holding onto someone who doesn’t have the capacity?

Where are you hoping timing will fix what alignment hasn’t?

Because this doesn’t fix itself.

It changes when your decisions change.

If you want help looking at how you’re currently dating—

and what would actually need to shift to create a different outcome—
